Mulhuddart Mens Shed- Info

 

Mulhuddart Mens Shed is a sanctuary for men from all walks of life living in Dublin 15.  No skills are required to join but health and safety is adhered to so all members must be drug and alcohol free.   

A vast array of characters uses this Mens Shed as an outlet. While some are unemployed, others manage physical and/ or mental challenges, some are dealing with early retirement they all agree that they enjoy coming here to occupy their time and fill their days productively. 

 There are several benefits of joining the Mulhuddart Mens Shed that include, escaping from the house and being around other men. When asked what brings members to the Mens shed every day its members were quick to reply that meeting new friends, a cup of tea, a chat. the craic and a bit of enjoyable light work are the key motivators.   

Here a problem halved is a problem shared. Nobody judges, everyone supports and listens to each other. There is acceptance among this community and no judgment. While they are not doctors or psychiatrists among its members, there is an understanding that talking helps and men leave feeling better. The simple act of working shoulder to shoulder with other men can give great relief to people who need an outlet.  

Where it began 

This initiative was established in 2012 and began with 5 members. Today this number has grown to 16. Knife Edge owns the land and kindly donates this to the Mulhuddart Mens Shed.   

The members sell some of their creations at local markets and fairs to raise funds to cover the running expenses. They rely on donations from local businesses and large corporations like Yahoo for funding to purchase tools and equipment.
